I was on my way to a big homemaker centre to get some home decor and furniture for my place and an upcoming H&D styling project, when I stumbled upon this old wares haven…. and just like that, yet again the universe has guided me to another swoon-worthy spot. I shall be adding this emporium to my collection of favourite places to meander through on a weekend.

The set up is great perfect because all the bigger furniture items are on the ground level and run by Mitchell Road Emporium and upstairs is Mitchell Road Antiques and Design Centre. The later is made up of over 60 different dealers showcasing their wares – hobbyists, collectors, stylists to full time dealers – so you get a great range of styles and variety.
If you are in the area, you’ll have to stop by there and take a looksie through the two huge warehouse floors full of amazing finds – old workshop tables, ex factory gear, antiques, novelty pieces, retro, art deco, industrial… whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find.
I highly recommend keeping at least an hour or two aside, because unlike a rummage through items at flea markets (often a ‘hit or miss’ affair), everything at Mitchell Road is a temptation. Take a pause between floors and visit their new, darling little cafe upstairs.
Don’t let the inner-city location and trendy, design-savvy crowd with their organic-soy-low-fat-lattes and quinoa cookies (there happens to be an amazing speciality Campos coffee store close by) fool you into thinking you’ll need to pay exorbitantly. The prices are very reasonable considering the stock is all sturdy, time-worn stuff with no chipboard, or laminate in sight.
Many of the items have been salvaged from different sites and given a dusting off and a freshen up, so you’re helping out by living a little greener, knowing that the pieces you purchase could have ended up as landfill.
Take a look at some of my favourite pieces and if you’re in the area then do yourself (and your home) a favour and visit!
A big thank you to the team at Mitchell Road Emporium & the Mitchell Road Antiques and Design Centre. You really went out of your way and took the time to help find great matches for the styling ideas I had in my head. It’s clear that each of you are passionate about old wares. I was amazed at the history you were able to share about so many of the pieces.
I plan to be a familiar face and source many old wares for H&D styling projects, so I might see you there!
