With a Spring that bought thirty degree heat, gusty winds and Spring Racing, there was no denying that our Aussie version of Spring hit Sydney with a blast. I have to start by saying one thing though…. as much as I hated being the Spring Grinch, it was a season that brought one quote to mind, the pithy and precise Miranda Priestley – “Florals? For spring? Ground breaking”.
Thankfully it is Summer and we can start afresh. I’ve used some of my favourite Spring fashion foundations and incorporated them into the new season’s look.
Thankfully, if winter was all about colour and Spring was a frenzy of floral prints, it’s time to revert back to some simple, Summery whites. Last time, I showed my love of Sydney fashion with an intro to Aussie designer Magdalena Dumas. It turns out her predictions for this season were right on the mark!
Vogue’s Fashion Night Out was the perfect time for me to enter an actual store (rather than just browse boutiques on the internet) and see what was on the racks this season. I was very pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for splashes of colour but it looks like whites are the star of the show (and I couldn’t be happier).
Zara, Nine West, Seed and Country Road were my star retailers for their crisp white selections during the Vogue launch. I didn’t get as many good photos as I thought I would on the night, so I’ve included some snippets from their online stores… but do click on their respective links for yourself to see their full range.
Inspired by all the white, I headed swiftly into hasty trend-driven purchase of this simple white dress from the very affordable Chic-a-booti, and it has been a very versatile favourite since. I like to team it up with my kitty-cat scarf from one of my go-to online stores chillybeauty.com. A cute little vintage purse, a-la-big sister (that’s not a store, it’s a piece from my sister’s endless supply of hand-me-downs which I am very appreciative of) finishes off the look well for a casual occasion.
A black or white blazer dresses this look up for work and from something more formal, add a metallic clutch like this one from Nine West (currently discounted by 30% to $49.95!). I’m a huge fan of this white boyfriend jacket and black lazer cut bomber jacket. Both are from Country Road.
But don’t worry, if plain white is a little too bland for your tastes, the fashion gods have blessed us with a bounty of Aztec prints this season. These are relics from the last few seasons and are the perfect compromise for those suffering from floral print hay-fever. Here’s a little number from UK store prettylittlething.com, (I’m anxious for mine to arrive). Complete the look with a classic sun hat, and you’re ready for the perfect Summer.
