Happiness is.. A flying fox

Yes, a flying fox. It’s strange to consider how it might ignite the happiness senses in me, but it did, this morning.

While out walking my dog Bentley on our morning stroll I could hear two women laughing hysterically in the distance. As I approached, I noticed the two women pushing one another on the flying fox equipment in the park with great speed. They threw their heads back and enjoyed the wind hitting their hair until they came to an abrupt halt at the end of the line. They were laughing so hard that one lady almost fell right off. Lucky her reflexes kicked in or she would have landed on the ground.

I smiled at them and said, “what a great way to start the day”. To which they replied, “You’d best get on and have your turn then. We’ll push you.” With that, I jumped on and too felt the exhilaration and rush doing something so silly. We all laughed together and had a wonderful moment that I know I will remember for a long time.

I walk passed that flying fox twice a day and have often wanted to jump on and fly across it, but always wondered what others would think of me. Today, I threw caution to the wind and embraced my inner child and went for it. I didn’t get hurt, no one mocked me, and I had a great time doing it.

Happiness is... A Flying Fox

As I walked away they wished me a wonderful day ahead. It was right then, and there that I had a rush of gratitude fill me up. I thought of a ex-colleague of mine whose father is terminally ill. She recently posted to Facebook a call to action, that we begin and end each day reflecting on the things that bring us happiness. Well, Michelle I took a ride on a flying fox today and loved it.

I encourage everyone to embrace your inner child once in a while, just because you can.
