Side table DIY

We’ve been too busy party styling lately, with home and DIY taking short and temporary back seat. So this super quick and easy side table DIY is bringing us back into the zone… and it has turned out to be one of our all time favourite pieces.

It’s great as a side table, but because the height of this completed piece is 60cm, you could also use it as a small dining table with some stools.

So simple to make this:

1. Take this $10 Kmart wire hamper (also comes in aqua) upside down as your table base.

2. This 75cm diameter ampersand clock from Target is your table top and currently on sale down to just $20. Any round, flat, solid item will do.

Simply unscrew the clock face and back, it comes off very easily and the hole in the centre that’s left is very small. Brush on some sealant or varnish if you want to make the wood face a little more durable, stain resistant or if you want to tint it a different colour.

I’m actually going to head out later today to grab another one, apply a food grade wood oil and use as a massive cheeseboard platter.

3. And this pack $2.19 pack of 20 cable clips from Bunnings to secure the base of the wire hamper to the back of the clock.

This is the finished result… featuring our Oz Design Furniture Antler Lamp on top. Complete side table is a whopping $32.19 and we love it! We’ve seen similar side tables in furniture stores fetching price tags in excess of $300, so we’re pretty happy with our bargain effort.
